Curriculum

As a PhD student you are committed to completing courses amounting to 28-35 ECTS credits before you can submit your thesis. Some activities are mandatory for all UCPH-SUND PhD students, namely courses in Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR1 and 2), while additional courses are mandatory for IVR-PhD students. The mandatory courses for IVR-PhD courses are listed below.

The following 3 courses are compulsory for IVR PhD students:

  1. Completion of a Laboratory Animal Science - EU Function ABD Licence (previously Cat. C licence) (7,5 ECTS credits).
  2. Completion of the course “Designing and succeeding with animal experiments” (6 ECTS credits).
  3. Completion of a course in statistics (6 ECTS credits).

Furthermore, active participation in other IVR events, such as the IVR annual meeting (October every year) is also compulsory.

The 3 abovementioned courses will award you 19,5-24,5 ECTS credits. If you already have an EU AD or EU ABD license, you will need only an upgrade or no additional training in Lab Animal Science. In addition, the RCR courses award 2 ECTS credits. Therefore, you will need to take additional courses. You can find and take courses in provided by The Graduate School of Health and Medical Sciences, the NorDoc collaboration, other Danish Universities via the National PhD course catalogue and elsewhere. Make sure that your principal supervisor accepts your participation in the course. Note that courses taken elsewhere need to be registered manually in your PhD Plan, read more here.

Special dispensations may be granted in respect of individual points in the above. Already completed courses prior to initiating your PhD can be accredited as external courses. For more information read here.

Upon completed PhD training, by submitting and successfully defending your thesis, a diploma from the Graduate Programme will be issued.
